Eunuch

Eunuch: Castrated male who could occupy any position in the imperial system; some offi ces were restricted to eunuchs alone. Eunuchs often received special preference since they were legally barred from imperial offi ce and were therefore regarded as trustworthy subordinates by the emperors.
