Praetorian Prefecture


Praetorian Prefecture: The largest administrative unit of the empire from the time of Constantine I, under a praetorian prefect (originally a commander of the praetorian guard). Each prefecture was divided into dioceses, then provinces, and had its own fi scal administrative and judicial structure.
