Discover the Charm of Pamukkale’s Natural Travertine Terraces

Pamukkale, also referred to as the “Cotton Castle,” is an exquisite natural marvel renowned for its chalk-white terraces. These spectacular terraces, brought to life by the saturated solution of calcium bicarbonate, bubble from the mountain’s feet, creating a surreal landscape that’s nothing short of a visual feast.

The plateau’s edge sees this calcium-rich water flowing over, where it cools down and releases carbon dioxide. As a result, calcium carbonate precipitates, forming the hard chalk or travertine that lends Pamukkale its unique appearance. Yet, changes are underway as the vibrant whiteness of the travertine slowly transforms into a shade of yellow. This shift has been attributed to a dwindling water supply, a result of local hotels tapping into this valuable resource.

While this poses a challenge for finding accommodation, we ensure that your experience is undisturbed. We have collaborations with premier hotels in Pamukkale Koyu, providing comfortable stays without compromising the conservation efforts for this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Uncover the Mysteries of the Hierapolis Archaeological Site

Our tour’s next stop is west of Pamukkale Koyu, at the heart of the Hierapolis archaeological zone. This Ancient Roman city, known for its sprawling necropolis, was once a thriving resort destination.

Of notable mention is the enigmatic Temple of Apollo and its neighboring Plutonium. This cavern, infamous for its emission of lethal sulfur and carbon dioxide gas, is shrouded in ancient lore and tales of divination.

Hierapolis Archaeological Site: Road to Constantinople

Our journey through Hierapolis’ history takes us next to a beautifully restored Roman amphitheater, dating back to the second century AD. Despite the passage of time, its intricate stage buildings and reliefs remain as testament to Roman architecture.

One cannot miss the city’s colonnaded street, which once extended almost 1km, leading to a series of grand portals. Today, only the northernmost arch, dedicated to Emperor Domitian in 84 AD, stands tall. Nestled south of this arch is the ornate tomb of Flavius Zeuxis, the first of the numerous tombs making up Asia Minor’s largest necropolis.
