The Temple of Artemis of Ephesus began its journey in the Bronze Age, around 800 BCE. Its roots can be traced back to an ancient shrine dedicated to the goddess Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, and childbirth. The first substantial temple was created by the Cretans, and its grandeur grew with each passing era. The temple was rebuilt multiple times, but the most famous version, designed by the architect Chersiphron, was constructed in 550 BCE.

The Temple of Artemis faced multiple instances of destruction. The most notorious was in 356 BCE when a man named Herostratus set fire to it. It was again rebuilt, only to be destroyed by the Goths in 268 CE. Despite the numerous destructions, the will to rebuild was always alive. Reconstructed by the likes of Alexander the Great and other notable rulers, the Temple of Artemis was a beacon of resilience.
